Alcohol!

Logic of the organic solvent :

Alcohol contains carbon atoms inside its composition which helps it dissolve things that water cannot usually dissolve. This is helpful because a very common problem for students is to scribble or accidentally write their body parts with pen ink. Alcohol swabs are a good way to get rid of the marks so that you can go to school the next day with fresh, clean skin.

Safety warning :

Do remember to not try it on your face because alcohol is very volatile. This brings negative effects to your face as it would dry up, leaving it bleeding and damaged.

Ethanol as the only drinkable alcohol :

All alcohol is dangerous and harmful to the body and can be found in sanitisers, disinfectants and even industrial feedstock. Ethanol is also dangerous long term but is added to beer, liquor, wine and other consumable drinks.

Structure of Ethanol :

Alcohol is made up of two carbon atoms, six hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. The functional group is the -OH as seen in the diagram below which is also the functional group of all alcohols. Another name of this alcohol is ethyl alcohol which is done by adding a prefix to the homologous series.

Naming carbon compounds :

There are 5 types of carbon compounds in the o-levels namely, alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, carboxylic acids and esters. Their name is based on the number of carbons present in the compound. The table of prefixes can be found below :
